A couple of days ago, I asked a random question to my Mom while we were eating dinner, which I do most of the time. My question was, ‘would you rather be with someone who’s successful but doesn’t have time for you or someone who’s not that successful but gives all of his time for you?’ In just a second, she answered, ‘I’d choose someone who has time for me. Because you can always work for success but when it comes to obligating other people to spend time with you, it’s difficult.’ I gave her a nod and smiled then went back to eating my dinner.

That question didn’t leave my mind until I had a chance to ask it with my SO. He told me that it was a very good question and answered the same thing as my Mom, which I already expected because he’s the type of guy who takes some time to talk to me whenever he can and even when he does something.

It’s a great feeling to spend time with people that we love especially if we’re going through rough days. Yes, building our careers and earning money is important too, but have we ever asked ourselves who are the reasons behind all of our hard work and patience?

My younger days thought me how time is too precious to get wasted. I spent my time figuring out where my luck was and tried to keep up with my friends, relatives’ successes. It was the old selfish me, who forgot the importance of time with family too aside from my career. That’s why when I had the chance to go home and be with my Mom, I grabbed it right away.

I’m not saying that we all need to forget about working hard, reaching our dreams and making our goals into reality. What I’m trying to say is, let’s try to balance our time and remind ourselves that spending more time with important people in our lives should our priorities above all.
