Ways to Avoid Feeling Insecure

Feeling down sometimes is normal, however, being insecure about ourselves all the time isn’t. In my own experience, there are some days that I feel I don’t do well in my life. I doubt and ask myself if I made the right decisions but I often do my best to see the positive in everything. Insecurity will eat us up and ruin all the good things in our lives if we keep on questioning our own selves.

Some may think that insecurity starts with the people around us. Those people who will say negative and bad things about us, judging and telling us we’re not good enough and other words that will sabotage our well-being and the way we live. Yet, we don’t realize that one of the main causes of insecurity is what we feel inside us. The way we think, say and how we treat ourselves are what causes us to be insecure.

In this post, I am going to share some of the ways on how to prevent ourselves from being insecure.

1. Focus on what we have, not on what we’re lacking.

Each of us has different talents and abilities. Some of us may not have the same to others and vice versa. Making a comparison with what we are lacking in what others have is where insecurity begins if we choose to focus on it. Why can’t we just concentrate on making ourselves better, right? Being unhappy about the things we don’t have is not only a waste of time but can also feel us miserable.

2. Build our self-confidence. 

Being insecure can lower our self-esteem and confidence. To avoid this, let’s stop trying to prove anything to other people. Asking for other’s approval in everything that we do will not do us any good. We shouldn’t allow others to feel that we need to get validated by them. Rather, let’s do what we feel like doing, embrace and love what we already have and consider aiming for other things that we don’t have.

3. Be independent. 

Do things by ourselves rather than relying on other people. Being codependent to others will bring us a lot of insecurity because it can make us feel that we can’t do anything without the help of others. If others can do things on their own, why can’t we? Remember that when we decide to do something that we fear of doing, it can be our greatest treasures in the future because facing our fears is one way of telling how strong person are we.

4. Trust ourselves. 

One way of avoiding feeling insecure about ourselves is having trust in oneself. By doing this, we can live a wonderful and positive life. When others question our decisions and try to change it, let’s listen to our inner voice, trust our guts and let it lead us to the right way.
