My Not So Special Christmas Day

It’s been a while since I made an update here on my blog and honestly, I miss it! Lately, I’m busy with the project that I mentioned before and I still can’t tell if it’s working well or not, it’s too early to say something about that. Anyway, let me share with you how I’m celebrating Christmas Day and how I’m planning to end it.

I woke up around 1 am this morning, not because I set an alarm, I just got disturbed from a deep sleep. Before I went back to sleep again, I decided to send greetings to my friends and relatives, wishing them a nice celebration, hoping they’re safe and may they be blessed. For me, Christmas Day is another typical day to be spent. Do I sound bitter? Well, our family was like any other families before too who prepare food, go to church and give gifts every Christmas. But as I grow older, everything has changed. My Mom thinks that continuing the tradition every year even if we’re not complete at home is nonsense. It’s also practical to save our time, energy and money than put a lot of effort even just for a day. Every day, we all have the opportunities to pray, feel blessed and spend time with the people we love.

This year, most of us struggled to survive in a day when the pandemic happened. Some experience depression and anxiety. Natural calamities like typhoons and earthquakes hit some countries, like the Philippines. We also lose some people who are important to us, like my family. It’s been 5 months since my father passed away due to alcohol intoxication and that’s one of the reasons why celebrating this year’s holidays is not a good thing. Although we’re already used to it because he’s always not at home during these times since I was a kid, it’s still different knowing that he’s not coming around anymore.

The weather this morning was gloomy. I decided to exercise at 8 am and took a bath after. Then, I cooked for brunch. It rained around 11 am and that’s the best time for me to take a nap. I watched TV for a bit and around 1 pm, I went to bed and tucked myself under my blanket. I felt one of my dog’s tongue licking my feet and checked the time, it’s already 30 minutes after 1 pm. It was still raining outside so I went back to sleep again. I woke up around 3 pm and I go straight to the fridge to re-heat the spaghetti sauce we had last night. We had snacks and watched TV for a bit. It’s already past 5 pm here as I write this post. The rain has stopped now and there’s nothing else I can do now since I already prepared food for dinner. I’m planning to read a few chapters of the book that I’ve been reading lately. Then try to sleep around 8 pm.

That’s it, my typical Christmas celebration. Hopefully, next year, it’ll be different and much happier than today. But I’m still feeling grateful that some things make me happy and feel blessed. I wish you’re having a wonderful Christmas everyone!

Thank you so much for reading!
